Christmas Kitchen Garland

Whether it is a tree, wreath, or garland, greenery composes some of the most iconic Christmas decorations year after year. I love the look of a fresh green garland, but it can be hard to find a nice full garland without spending an arm and a leg. I am not about to drop hundreds of dollars year after year for the fresh garland look I want. This year I found a way to get beautifully full garland that is half real and half faux greenery. Since I purchased all of the faux material this year, I will only have to pay $30 at the most next year to recreate my garland!

I purchased all of my faux pine cones and eucalyptus garlands at Hobby Lobby.

I purchased my fresh greenery garland at Costco.

Other Supplies:

Twine

3M Hooks

Scissors

After I decided where I wanted my garland, I made sure that I had something to tie and fixate the garland to. I got lucky since the boxes of my window blinds had interior metal brackets that could work as supports. If you do not have anything to tie your garland onto I would suggest using 3M hooks. I would opt for the heavy duty hooks. Even though it may not seem like it, the garland can be pretty weighty especially when you start adding other decorations and apply pressure while customizing. Follow the 3M instructions carefully for optimum support.

I then cut my fresh greenery garland down to the size I needed. You could either measure your space, or be lazy like me and just eye ball it. I took the middle of the garland and tied it with twine to the supports that were placed in the middle of the area being decorated I tied it at two different spots in the middle to help support the weight. After the middle fastened, I tied up the corners of the garland with twine. I chose to leave over hang on either side and let the garland droop a bit in between ties to create a romantic effortless feel.

Once the fresh greenery was up, it was time to start adding the fun details. I started with my faux eucalyptus garlands. I simply just wrapped the faux garland around the fresh, positioning the leaves on the faux garland to my liking as I went. I did not use anything extra to secure the faux garland. The garland was able to stay in place on its own after I finished wrapping and adjusting. The area that I chose to decorate is about 5 feet and I used 2 garlands. If you want a fuller look you can add even more. I really like how the eucalyptus added texture and dimension to the fresh greenery garland.

In order to add even further dimension to the garland I chose to add faux pine cones. I LOVE the pine cones that I was able to find at Hobby Lobby. Not only are they a beautiful white wash, but they are also made out of malleable plastic so they are much more durable. Durability is something very important to this boy mama. These pine cones also have a wired stem which made them perfect for this project. I used the wired stem to fasten the pine cones onto the garland. I spaced the pine cones out and made them face different directions so that the finished product did not look too uniform and manufactured.

When everything was in place I took a couple of steps back and pin pointed some spots that needed adjusting. After pushing and pulling a few leaves and pine cones around I was finished! I love how our garland came out and cannot wait to recreate it next year.
